Project Background
In early September 2016 Nissha Printing, a Japanese industrial technology company acquired Graphic Controls Holdings, Inc. as part of their strategic entry into the U.S. medical device manufacturing market. Their strategy involved the development of a new business unit and its accompanying brand, Nissha Medical Technologies, located in Buffalo, NY at 400 Exchange Street.
A key part of this transition was implementing medical signage that would establish the new brand presence while supporting both visibility and functionality across the facility.
Key Challenges
The Buffalo location consists of a large development and logistics facility requiring a combination of branding and wayfinding signage. The project presented several challenges:
- Timing: The acquisition required a rapid transition to new medical signage to accelerate brand recognition in the community.
- Brand Standards: The new identity needed to be presented boldly and consistently in line with Nissha’s global branding standards.
- Installation Requirements: Installation of the medical sign package needed to be completed with minimal disruption to daily operations.
Solution: Custom Medical Signage for Brand Visibility
The Nissha Medical corporate sign package consisted of a mix of different sign types, including:
- A custom metal monument sign with push through vinyl faced acrylic letters, custom routed in Nissha's custom fonts and configured to utilize the existing sign foundation and power supply.
- Two sets of channel letters mounted on a raceway to highlight the elevated glass entryway.
Each element of the medical signage solution was designed to enhance visibility, reinforce brand identity, and integrate seamlessly with the existing facility.
Outcome: Improved Visibility and Seamless Brand Transition
The new corporate sign installation was completed in the Fall of 2016, on time and on budget, enabling Nissha Medical Technologies to complete their transition from Graphic Controls.
The medical signage improved brand visibility at the Buffalo facility and supported a smooth and efficient transition to the new corporate identity.
