Buffalo Grand Hotel Outdoor Signage

Project Background

In early 2018 Canadian developer Harry Stinson purchased the Adams Mark Hotel along the downtown Buffalo waterfront.  Included in the multi-million dollar renovation was a new hotel outdoor signage design to differentiate the property from others in the neighborhood.

Key Challenges  in Hotel Outdoor Signage Design

The developer presented the design team with a number of objectives in this new design project:

  • Provide a "classic" look that differentiated the hotel from others in the neighborhood.
  • Help establish the new brand within the Buffalo community.
  • Ensure brand visibility from the neighborhood and the nearby elevated highway.

Solution: A New Hotel Outdoor Signage

The final hotel outdoor signage solution combined several design elements to highlight the Buffalo Grand's new brand, including:

  • A solid metal cabinet with a routed cutout face with white illuminated acrylic backing leveraging a classic typeface logo.
  • Two rows of marquee-style lighting which provide a motion effect similar to a classic movie marquees.

Outcome

The new outdoor hotel signage installation was completed in the Fall of 2018, and was featured in Buffalo Business First on December 20, 2018

The result: a bold and highly visible sign that elevated the hotel’s presence, reinforced its brand identity, and created a landmark along Buffalo’s downtown waterfront.
