Project Background
Five Star Equipment, a regional dealer of John Deere construction equipment, was relocating their dealership to a new location in North Syracuse, NY. As part of the transition, they required a complete commercial signage solution to maintain brand visibility and ensure a seamless move.
Although signage was just one element of a large relocation effort, it involved several technical and logistical complexities. It involved the removal and reinstallation of a 30' pylon sign, which was converted from traditional fluorescent lighting to a modern, more energy efficient LED solution. The new building also required new multi layered, architectural signage consistent with their updated branding.
Key Challenges
The project presented several challenges typical of large-scale commercial signage solutions:
- Site Coordination: Installation schedules had to align with both the general contractor and Five Star’s internal team to minimize downtime during the transition.
- Branding Standards: All signage had to remain consistent with both Five Star's branding standards and John Deere's, whose brand they also represent.
- Asset Preservation: The existing pole sign represented a substantial investment which needed to be leveraged to the extent possible.
- Structural Complexity: The architectural features of the building required a custom signage approach that was both visually bold and structurally sound.
Solution Proposed
Flexlume provided a full-service signage package tailored to the client’s needs, including:
- A crane-assisted removal and reinstallation of the pole sign from the old to the new location.
- An LED upgrade of the lighting system within the sign to add brightness, longevity and reliability.
- A custom multi-layered sign including a 7' 1 3/4" square medallion representing the John Deere brand overlayed on a 27' 7" "equipment gold" colored background with individually cut 3D letters for Five Star Equipment.
- The Five-Star brand was further enhanced by an 88 1/4" tall logo aluminum pan sign with layered colored vinyl representing the various geometric and alpha-numeric elements of their logo.
This comprehensive solution not only ensured brand consistency but elevated the visual presence of the dealership from the road and on-site.
Outcome
With strong collaboration between Flexlume, Five Star Equipment, and the project’s general contractor, all signage was installed on time and within budget.
The pylon sign was successfully relocated and upgraded, while the new building signage delivered a clean, modern representation of both brands. The completed signage package reinforced Five Star Equipment’s presence in the region and provided a lasting first impression for customers at the new location.
